Dr. Gordon refers to my son and his fellow Special Needs students as Scholars. Her use of that word to describe them signifies her unique view of our Special Needs students and their ability to learn and thrive in an educational setting. Dr. Gordon is a true Servant Leader at heart. As the Executive Director of my son's Special Education Department, she was actively involved in every aspect of the student learning experience. Whether it is advocating for Special Needs students in a high-level meeting or visiting with the students and reading to them in the classroom, Dr. Gordon is skilled in ascertaining student's needs to ensure each has the necessary accommodations to be the most successful in the classroom. She also understands the importance of parental involvement and the role it plays in building a strong, cohesive, learning platform between the educational setting and the home environment. Dr. Gordon has spent her entire professional career working with, directing, and helping Special Needs students. She has a vast understanding of the many facets involved in creating programs that encourage student learning and participation. Dr. Gordon has made a tremendous difference in my son's life and in positioning him to have the best chance possible at an independent and productive life. Knowing her and having her continued guidance in his educational journey has been invaluable!

Hello, Mrs. Gordon, This is Jawoine Hawkins, I got your number from your son, Noah. I was planning to stop by when I was in Grand Prairie, but, I was super tied up with getting things together for grad school. However, I just wanted to tell you thank you for staying on me when I was under your tutelage many years ago. I’m in graduate school now working on my MFA at UCIrvine. … And, thank you, again. I will indeed keep my eyes on the prize and stay diligent till the end.

Dr. Gordon, Thank you so much for your continued support of the Behavior Conference. Your dedication not only to our own staff but those of other districts large and small all across the state has made a lasting impact on millions of educators. Thank you for supporting all of my "projects", and my work always. Dr. Gordon, I want to thank you for your unwavering dedication to the 180 Reclaiming Center. Without your support, so many young lives would have been absorbed into the system. Your vision for helping troubled youth will bless this district for many years to come.

I have worked with Dr. Gordon for close to 20 years. In all of that time, I have known her number one goal is to be an advocate for all scholars. Dr. Gordon has worked tirelessly to ensure that all students have access to be the best scholar academically, socially, and emotionally.

I had the terrific pleasure of working with Dr. Gordon throughout her seven-year tenure as the Executive Director of Special Education for the Grand Prairie Independent School District. In addition to having the opportunity to observe Dr. Gordon’s work “on-the-ground”, I also had the honor of presenting with her at a number of state-wide educator conferences. During this time, I learned two very important things about Dr. Gordon. First, she is tremendously knowledgeable about, and dedicated to, the field of education. Second, her gift for education is only surpassed by her passion to do right by her “scholars.” Dr. Gordon doesn’t just talk about servant leadership…she lives it.

Serving in many roles, including teacher, campus administrator, Executive Director of Special Education, and parent, Dr. Gordon is a knowledgeable and a fierce advocate for all students, especially those with learning differences. Her broad experiences, passion, and belief that all scholars can excel drives her to hold others accountable in maintaining high expectations and implementing equitable practices.

Dr. Gordon is a true professional, an impassioned advocate for students with disabilities, and underserved students, families, and communities. Her knowledge and leadership related to special education services, program development, and emphasis on system change is unsurpassed.

I have known Dr. Gordon for almost 20 years and what I can say is that her vision and passion still remain true today but with more fervor as she propels forward towards her mission- her creed, and now without limits as she begins her new journey. Her vision and passion have always been in Education with the sole purpose of individuals reaching their full potential. She lights up when she hears of her students’ accomplishments regardless of what they are as long as they are accomplishments for the good of mankind. Dr. Gordon is honorable in all she does.

Dr. Dorothea Gordon is an amazing leader, inspirational and committed to excellence. She believes in the potential of all “Scholars,” and she calls on her vast knowledge and first-hand experiences when educating teams to achieve success in working with all children. With over 3 decades in the Special Education field, there is not a challenge that Dr. Gordon has not encountered. Under her leadership, educators at every level have grown in their knowledge and implementation of best practices for all students, most especially high needs students.
